Teaching and Learning with Chatterbots and Artificial Intelligence Agents
WORKSHOP
ACTIVITY 1 – Learning from a Bot: 5-15 minutes
Generate a discussion with an intelligent chatterbot. Participants may choose from a list of bots trained in:
• Social Conversation (general knowledge, common sense topics)
• Special topics (Chemistry, JavaScript, Abraham Lincoln)
• Self-help (eating disorders, depression, dating, etc.)
ACTIVITY 2 – Teaching a Bot: 10-30 minutes
Teach a new chatterbot about a special topic by:
• Populating the “Brain” database
• Testing the bot’s knowledge
• Refining the Brain database
DISCUSSION – Advantages to using intelligent or teachable chatterbots in a learning environment, particularly special needs populations such as reluctant readers, visually impaired, and foreign language learners.
TAKE HOME – Participants will be provided with:
• Resources for free or low cost AI options for educators
• Research on AI bots as learning tools
• Personally Trained Bot will remain online and accessible after the conference for *further training*.
